The October earthquake has resulted in the death of 85,000 people and has left millions homeless. Morning Star Development has already given out 1250 blankets, 800 food packs and 650 children’s coats. The Pakistan Army has granted MSDEV the oversight of a tent-village near Balakot, Pakistan; a city of 300,000 virtually destroyed by the earthquake. This tent village is currently providing shelter, food, clothing and medical relief to 54 surviving families coming down from the mountains for the winter from the communities of Kaghan, Paris, and Baila (and one family from Ghanul). We plan for the camp to have a capacity of 100 families.
back Tent Village Update May2006

Our worker in Pakistan, Asif Jamshaid, is directing a partnership of churches and organizations that is cooperating in relief activities. Our goal is to work with and through the local church wherever possible. Asif is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Faisalabad and he has hired Waseem and his wife

(and child) to live in and manage the village through the winter. Waseem is a seminary graduate who has been involved in Muslim outreach and his wife is a medical nurse. Asif and his assistant Adeel (Minister of First Presbyterian Church of Abottabad) will also be staying at the village to oversee relief staff and teams.

The tent-village setting gives us the opportunity to establish relationships and follow-up with each family. One tent accommodates a normal size family of 4-6 persons. The food package (rice, sugar, lentils, tea, milk, oil, potatoes, onions, vegetables, meat/chicken (once a week) would be provided on a weekly basis. With the help of a portable medical clinic that International Aid has shipped a medical team is already caring for patients and another team follows in January. Please consider working with us to provide for these families this winter.
