Roughly 400 million Christians are believed to have gathered in more than 200 nations worldwide for numerous Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) events held on Pentecost Sunday. Although detailed statistics are still being assembled, believers from countries such as Korea, Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States gathered under the prayer banner of 2 Chronicles 7:14. In Nigeria millions gathered in the economic capital of Lagos to pray for their nation and the world just days ahead of their new president taking office. In Dallas, a service hosted by T.D. Jakes of The Potter’s House, evangelist Luis Palau and pastor Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas drew many to pray in Reunion Arena. In London tens of thousands of Christians from a multitude of denominations packed into the West Ham United Football Club in East London to pray for their nation and the globe.

GDOP founder Graham Power and 47 others climbed to the top of the largest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, reaching the summit on Pentecost Sunday. They planted a cross, offered prayers of repentance and interceded for revival and restoration around the world. Ninety Days of Blessing follows the GDOP as an opportunity for Christians to not only continue in persistent prayer, but to also become actively involved in outreach ministry and evangelism.

Believers Encouraged to Go to Mountaintops to Pray on Global Day of Prayer
by Inspire Staff/TN and Breaking Christian News BCN, May 19, 2007

"It is no coincidence that two of our greatest Biblical heroes, Moses and our Savior Jesus Christ, met with God in the mountains. Those times they spent with God enabled them to gain directives, strength and inspiration concerning their mission on the earth, and those directives, which they carried out, continue to impact on the lives of Believers today."

Inspire Magazine reports that Believers taking part in the Global Day of Prayer events, being held throughout the world on the 27th of May, are being encouraged to climb to the top of the hills and mountains in their villages, towns or cities to pray on this special day.

Graham Power, the founder and Chairman of the Global Day of Prayer initiative, was given as an example. On that day, he will join 100 people and climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, where—along with other climbers—they will say prayers of repentance, revival and restoration for the whole world.

Pastor Jonathan Oloyede, one of the organizers of the Global day of Prayer London event stated, "Graham Powers and his climbers are setting a great example for Christians to follow—that is to take time out of their busy schedule and meet with God in a secluded and high place."
