Dear Friends

With this scripture in mind we are all looking forward to the Global Day of Prayer because we realize that around the world many believers will be gathered, irrespective of race, culture, denomination or political views. All will be experiencing this promise of joy in their intimacy with God. To think that indeed on that day the earth can be called “a house of prayer for the nations.”

Today we invite you to celebrate with us the fact that we have almost reached the goal, that was set in 2005, of 220 nations participating in Global Day of Prayer. With only the small island nation of St Pierre and Miquelon just off the coast of Canada outstanding we can truly say that every nation will be represented in front of the throne of grace.

Since Africa invited the world to participate in Global Day of Prayer in 2005 the Pacific nations have been one of the most difficult to involve. Not because of their indifference or reluctance but because of the struggle with communication to some of the most remote nations. As the Chairman of the All Pacific Prayer Assembly, Emmanuel Fave once reported: : Distance, time, isolations and very limited resources are our main obstacles for networking and connection. By the grace of God and people who really worked hard, we have all the major nations in the Pacific involved this year. However, we know that there is still a lot of ground to cover in this widespread continent.

From the island nation of Fiji comes the report from Taveuni Island: Taveuni is on the 180th Meridian, the International Dateline. From the beginning of the GDOP, the church of Fiji has been delighted to begin the day of prayer for all of the nations of the earth. For the past three years, Taveuni has served to lead all the nations before God’s throne as the islanders greet the first rays of dawn. There are about 10 different denominations that have cooperated in each of these prayer sessions. For the first two years many prayed through the night, then went to their local churches before assembling in the afternoon for a joint prayer rally. Many other events will take place throughout Fiji.

In Tonga “there was great enthusiastic response for GDOP when GDOP was announced on the Heal Tonga TV programme”.

In Australia 13 towns/cities, some with more than one event, will partake and in New Zealand so far 30 cities/towns have indicated their involvement. We are all convinced that there are many more that we don’t know of.
