THIS PRAYER’S FOR YOU
This was sent to me today, November 20, 2005 by Polly Gwinn
It is the middle of November and here in West Texas the weather is beginning to show signs of a fast approaching winter. We are on day light saving time and the sun has set early leaving an eerie air of anticipation around the house. It is quiet and warm inside with only the lights from this computer piercing the darkness. I settled here with intentions of writing you a little story from the Bible but found myself with a heavy heart. I have a strong feeling that God is trying to tell me that one of you or perhaps several are in need of prayer tonight. Therefore, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit who helps us with the right words when we do not know what to pray, I pray first that He also be with you all as you read this and open your hearts to accept the words as yours from God. I pray that each of you will be blessed so that you can be a greater blessing to others. There is power in prayer and there is power in the Word of God. Combine these two dynamic sources with the power of the Holy Spirit and spiritual energy is unleashed in the believer’s life resulting in answered prayer.
The prophet Jeremiah wrote about God’s words; “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and un-searchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3). It is reaffirmed by the New Testament writer James who wrote; “Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you” (James 4:8). There is no greater truth in the entire universe than the fact that God loves you! Prayer is our safe place, our place of refuge in difficult times. President Abraham Lincoln wrote; “I am oftimes driven to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I have nowhere else to go”! My prayer is that none wait until the last resort to call on the name of Jesus. “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him” (Colosians 3:16-17).
Father, for those who feel they have fallen short of you glory and sinned against you I pray that you forgive them. By their repentance they will understand that they are changed and can, through your strength, change the course of their life. I pray that now, today, they turn in the opposite direction from the way of sin and determine in their heart to follow you, no matter what the cost. For the ones, Father, that are childish in their spirit and tossed to and fro be guided to the truth and grounded in the faith that granted them salvation. Forgive them, Father for the times they have been so easily influenced by others and bring them back into the Body of Christ. Give them an exciting realization that you are the goal in their life. Please forgive the ones that have rebelled against you, urging them to repent of all the acts of disobedience. Help them to see that obeying you leads to so many good things. Lord, fill them with the promised Holy Spirit and with the joy that comes whenever they do your will. Let them wait before you to receive this promise and help them to see what it really means.
Father, for the ones that are oppressed by the devil, the accuser of the brethren, show them once again the victory you have over Satan. Guide them on the right path that they might walk in this same victory because they are believers and not doubters. For the ones living in the past and cannot fully live for you while there, I pray that you assure them you have erased the past with the blood of Jesus. Let them not be preoccupied with either the past or the future but to live fully in the present moments of their life. Father, you have come to heal the broken hearted and the bruised and it is my prayer that you do this now for anyone that will reach out and receive this healing. Rejection, bitterness, resentment and lack of esteem and love for oneself can become an addiction and hold a person captive. I ask you to come in power and deliver all who are broken hearted and set the captives free. Lord, there is no fear in your love and because of this I ask that all fear be renounced and the love of Christ replace fear in the hearts of the insecure.
Lord, thank you for the gift of speech. One needs help to use it responsibly. Put a watch before their lips that they might always honor you with their words. Keep them from sowing strife, Lord, knowing that a whisperer separates close friends and causes a separation from God. Guilt no longer has any dominion in the lives of these people since you have set them free. There is one that is lonely. Thank you Lord, for the promise that you will be there always and have sent the Holy Spirit for comfort and He dwells within each person. Just as Jesus turned to the throne of grace in His loneliness in the garden, teach this one, Father, that he too will find mercy, comfort and grace there in his time of need. The lust of the eye and the lust of the flesh are creating great problems for someone’s loved one. You will not permit a person to be tempted above their ability to resist. Make a way for them Lord, to escape so that they will be able to bear it.
For the one that lacks self confidence and cannot escape the negative attitude that seems to control their life, remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made and you have changed them and are perfecting them in your own image. Now, Lord, I ask that you show them that your strength is made perfect in their weakness, that you have begun a good work in them and will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. You, Lord Jesus, were despised and rejected of men and through this experience you have borne the grief and carried the sorrows of the one that is feeling the pain of rejection. It is not your will for them to have hurt so I ask of you Father, to give them courage and not fear what men may do to them. Forgive the ones that worry for they do not have to. I pray that they cast their burdens on your strong and willing shoulders and that you will give them rest.
Father, for the ones here that have lost loved ones in death, through accidents, sickness, military fatalities, miscarriages or aging, I ask that you grant them a peace that surpasses human understanding. Assure them, Lord, that even in death they will live again in your presence and that you have wiped all the tears from their eyes and erased all of their aches and pains. Lord Jesus, you are the Great Physician and all healing comes from you. Thank you for caring so much about those who are ill. I pray that the sick receive your healing now, Lord, in their area of physical need and believe you are restoring them to health and vitality. I pray for the ones that are confused about tithing, Father, that you assure them if they obey you with tithes and offerings that you will open the windows of heaven and pour your blessings forth abundantly to them. Your Word says that you have given everyone a spirit sound mind and this I pray for the mentally disabled in the entire world that they do not have to live with imperfection any longer.
Those who are in need of jobs to provide for themselves and families, Father, lead them to the place that you have prepared for them for it is your desire that they walk in success. I pray for broken families that they be united in the Love of Jesus Christ. For the unborn child that is a precious gift from God, I ask that you cover the womb with your love. Bless this child with a supernatural awareness of your presence that she or he may be sensitive to your Spirit. Help husbands and wives to submit their lives to you and each other in reverential fear of you. Thank you for your promise, Father, that whosoever will call upon your name shall be saved. I ask that you send the Holy Spirit to woo the lost that they will feel conviction and turn to the Father who will gladly and faithfully grant them eternal life. Help everyone to know the will of God, to walk in God’s Word and holiness and to grow spiritually daily.
I bow my knee to you, God, the Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that you would grant, according to the riches of your glory, strength with might by your Spirit in the inner man that Christ may dwell in these hearts by faith. That they, being rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth and height of God’s love. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! This I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
