You Must Stir the Anointing
Prophetess Frances Lloyd, August 15, 2008

One of the most valuable lessons to learn in Christ is to recognize His anointing and stir it up inside of you. Each of us are anointed differently. One thing is clear it is the anointing (or the empowerment of the Holy Spirit) that defeats the enemy. (Isaiah 10:27) And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Yoke=a heavy band tied upon the shoulders typically binding two oxen together to force them to use their strength to labor for that person guiding them.

What is the anointing? The Definitions are: (1) A Strong Unction by the Holy Spirit (2) Specific empowerment for service (3) Special endowment of the Holy Ghost.

One definition is=the anointing is the presence of the Holy Spirit being smeared upon someone. It is literally the smearing of the anointing of God into our lives that makes us able to do what He wants done. It is the overflowing life of Jesus which imparts supernatural strength enabling an person to perform a special task or function in an office he is called and appointed to.

One of my definitions is when the Holy Spirit supernaturally makes you able to do something that you cannot take credit for by natural talent or physical means. It is the Holy Spirit gifting that makes you able to achieve anything that you achieve for the Lord. You have nothing that God didn’t give to you.

I desire more than anything to continuously walk in the anointing. One thing I have learned is that in order to walk in the anointing there is a price to pay, and it is a heavy price. To receive the anointing and to walk in it are two entirely different things.

In the Old Testament, God would anoint a person to function effectively in a particular office. For example, He would choose a person and anoint him to stand in the office of a prophet. He would choose another and anoint him to stand in the office of a priest. He would choose still another one and anoint him to stand in the office of a king. David, God's chosen one, had the anointing of a king, a prophet and also a priest.

David as king "Arise, anoint him..." (1 Samuel 16"12)

David as prophet - "The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and his word was in my tongue." (2 Samuel 23:2)

David as priest - "...And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings..." (2 Samuel 24:25)

These offices are also available through Christ which means they are for the spirit-filled church today. In (Luke 4:18, 19), He said, The spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted; To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

Moses was anointed deliverer. Even though they killed all the babies under two years old, they couldn’t kill Moses, because He was anointed to do that job. God’s hand was on him.

You can see what the anointing of God can do in the life of a person who is called by God. After the time in the wilderness, Jesus was no longer passive, but He started to demonstrate the power of God's kingdom by destroying the works of the devil. The anointing is for service to the King of kings. It is not to build our little kingdoms on earth. Jesus was there to do God's will, not to please an organization, or any man but to be the carrier of God's anointing.

Our flesh is no match for satan. There is no power, no bomb, or no technology that can destroy the works of the devil. It is only the anointing of Holy Spirit that can break the yokes. It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. Isaiah 10:27

Jesus is our example in life and ministry. If Jesus needed to be anointed on earth, we need also to be anointed, otherwise we will not walk in victory as promised.

When you stir up the anointing, the Holy Spirit teaches you. I found that if I would seek God, He would see that I had what I needed. Many times I was praying about something I was trying to study when He caused that to be the very sermon that the pastor preached or a specific question was answered on the radio for example. I have passed billboards on churches where the scripture displayed was the exact answer that I needed from God.

In John 15:7, He said if you abide in me and my words abide in you… That empowerment of the Holy Spirit inside of you will bear witness when the Holy Spirit is teaching you something. You will know by the spirit when it is of God if you have been “in Christ” and washing your mind in the Word of God. (1 John 2:27) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The physical expression of the Holy Spirit done by the act of anointing with oil represents the spiritual experience of empowerment by the Holy Spirit. (James 5:14) Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

In this next scripture, when it refers to given them by reason of the anointing is speaking exactly by God’s plan evidenced by His empowerment to do a certain job. (Numbers 18:8) And the LORD spoke unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, by an ordinance forever.

The anointing is known about in hell. In the book of Acts chapter 19, we can read where Paul was in Ephesus speaking about the Holy Spirit. He was full of the anointing as demonstrated by God working unusual miracles by his hands so that handkerchiefs and aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirit went out of them. That was the anointing.

There were some imitators who were not called by God and, without the anointing, who tried to cast out evil spirits. And the evil spirit answered, Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you? (Acts 19:15). Jesus was known and is known in Hell. Paul also was known in hell. Are you known in hell? Read in (Acts 19:16) And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. We best be known in hell for ourselves. We need to make it a practice to walk in our position, then the devils will fear us as well.

These people were trying make merchandise out of the anointing. Satan is not a creator. He is a counterfeiter. He always tries to imitate the genuine, even right in the midst of church sometimes. Now don't misunderstand what I am saying. It can be a genuine move of the Holy Spirit, but in these last days we have to discern. Satan will give you ten gallons of good if he can sneak in one teaspoon of his poison. We have to be grounded in and bathed in the Word of the Lord and His Holy Spirit to discern the real from the fake. We can’t take everything for granted. Those who are really anointed will never speak against the will and the word of God and will bring life to others. What is the fruit?

This scripture shows us a type and shadow of the Holy Ghost empowerment under the new covenant. (Leviticus 21:10) And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

Again in this scripture, it is a type and shadow of the Holy Ghost empowerment in the new covenant. (Leviticus 10:7) And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.

Notice here that the anointing was also for sanctification. Sanctification: purification, separated for service, holiness. (Leviticus 8:12) And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.

The anointing was not just for a person, but for places and things separated unto God. There was an anointing on the Ark of the Covenant which prevented just anyone from touching it. (Exodus 40:9) And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.

The anointing means so many things. We must seek God continually in so many ways to be sure that we have the anointing to do whatever it is that God wants done. Recently the Lord spoke a word which stuck with me. The anointing is always in you, you just have to stir it up.

You can stir it by these things:

1. Renewing your mind daily in His Word and His Will…(Romans 12:2) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2. Meditating on His will and His Word continually. (Romans 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

3. Praying in the Holy Spirit. (Jude 1:20) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

4. Be sure that you have a relationship with Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

5. Living in Him must be your lifestyle. Most of all, it is abiding in Him, and He in you… Anointing comes from relationship. (John 15:7) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

6. Is every thing you think, say or do welcoming the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life? (1 Thessalonians 5:19) Quench not the Spirit.

7. Check things out and hang onto the good, while resisting the evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:21) Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (1 Thessalonians 5:22) Abstain from all appearance of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:23) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly…

8. Spend time in His presence praising and worshipping Him.

In Him,
