Stiven, aged 11 and Klen, aged 14. Due to the lack of money, their mom didn't get the right medical treatment and died very young because of a heart condition. Their father neglected the kids completely. They didn't go to school anymore, hardly had food and spent the whole day out on the streets. A missionary who helped out at the school of this slum area brought these kids to us.
Just now I learned that their father died two weeks ago (today is May 8, 2006), also because of a heart condition. This means that the boys are now complete orphans..

He tells us:
My name is Stiven. I am 11 years old now. And I am in grade 5. When I was 9, my brother Klen and I came to Mercy Mission. Back then, we lived in a very poor district of the Bogotá mountains, together with my dad. We spent almost all the time outside on the streets and went to school only every now and then. Often, we didn't have enough to eat and dad was not not at home. We were as dirty as our house and I only had my older brother to take care of me. A German missionary working at our school knew Angelika and asked her to help us. This is how we came to Mercy Mission. Here we have enough to eat, can go to school each day and are getting clean and nice clothings.
When I was 8 years old, my mom died because of a heart failure. In April 2006 we got the news about the death of my dad. He also died because of a heart desease. Now we are complete orphans. Yet, we have found a new home and loving people to care for us. This is why I can smile at everybody as I am basically a happy boy. People around me like me and I like them, too!
I love sports, especially football (soccer). Every saturday, people from church come visiting. Then we play together and they tell us of God and we also pray with them.
I have a lady sponsor who helps me with the expense for my education. But I am still in need of covering transportation and maintainance. Who would like to help me?
