Erika is a lovely little 9-year old. She is friendly, shy and doesn't talk much.
But she also likes to fool around sometimes!
You can see how much she enjoys praise dancing!
Erika needs a lot of love and security...

She tells us,
My name is Erika. Me and my sister Yudi are staying with Mercy Mission since September 2005. I am 9 years old and attend grade 1. Sometimes I think I will never make it to learn how to read and write... all the other kids are doing better than I do.
We were brought here by some missionaries from Youth with a Mission. There was a lot of prostitution and poverty there where we used to live before. My mom had no job, since she very often fell ill, which is why she could not pay for our schooling.
There is a lot of brutality in my family. My dad hit my brothers and sisters and also my mom who I love so much. Sometimes, we didn't have enough to eat. Two of my brothers are in jail. Since we didn't have food, they went out to steal and were caught.
Now, being with Mercy Mission, I slowly but steadily begin to trust again. One has to be very careful in a world that I have got to know. At Mercy Mission, I heard for the very first time in my life that I am beautiful. I couldn't believe this at first and started cring.
I just love dancing and and singing praises to Jesus. I miss my mom a lot and I am so happy everytime she comes visiting me or I can go visiting her.
